Imagine stepping into a home where the boundaries between indoor and outdoor living dissolve, offering an uninterrupted embrace of the Caribbean's natural blue ocean beauty. The Estuary's interior design concept centers around an expansive open floor plan, seamlessly connecting the living, dining, and kitchen areas, all framed by floor-to-ceiling windows that invite the mesmerizing blue hues of the ocean indoors.
The main goal was to create a space for the clients to live the life they want to live. The living space is thoughtfully arranged to maximize the breathtaking ocean views. Strategically placed furniture creates intimate conversation zones without disrupting the flow of the open plan. The challenge involved utilizing the keepsakes that they have collected over the years in the countries they have lived or visited. A neutral base color palette was used and accented with pops of African, European and Caribbean-inspired hues, complementing the vibrant seascape beyond. The result is an eclectic mix that is calming, yet not devoid of culture. Natural materials like rattan and teak are incorporated to enhance the tropical aesthetic. The design emphasizes the cooling effect of porcelain tiles, providing consistent cooling throughout the space and freeing up wall space for more expansive views.
The Estuary features a large central island accentuates the kitchen while serving as a workspace and gathering spot, ensuring the cook remains connected with family and guests. The client loves to cook. High-end appliances are integrated seamlessly into custom cabinetry, maintaining the sleek, uncluttered look. With sustainability att the core of the design, the cabinetry are made of locally sourced wood reducing the environmental footprint for its acquistion. The kitchen's design features a neutral color palette as a backdrop to acentuate the beauty of the wood, creating a dynamic and inviting atmosphere. The expansive countertops provide ample space for meal preparation, while a spacious pantry offers abundant storage. The design also considers zoning within the open plan, using elements like the island to define the kitchen area, ensuring functionality without compromising the sense of openness.
Adjacent to the kitchen, the dining area is positioned to take full advantage of the panoramic ocean vistas. A large, elegant dining table invites family gatherings and dinner parties, while the proximity to the kitchen enhances the dining experience. The use of consistent white flooring throughout the space creates a sense of continuity, further enhancing the open-plan design. A design detail that we particularly love is the addition of radomly space flat tiles among the glossy finish tiles. This creates a dittered effect on the floor, essentially interrupting the shine of the floor to limit the glear when the sun is in the East.
The expansive floor-to-ceiling windows not only provide unobstructed views of the turquoise sea but also invite gentle Caribbean breezes to circulate freely, enhancing the indoor-outdoor living experience. Sliding glass doors lead directly from the living and dining areas to outdoor terraces, blurring the lines between interior comfort and exterior beauty. This seamless connection to nature fosters a tranquil and rejuvenating atmosphere throughout the home.
In this design, every element is curated to celebrate the owners' passion for cooking and their love for the Caribbean environment. The open floor plan fosters togetherness, while the strategic placement of windows and thoughtful zoning create a harmonious balance between functionality and the serene beauty of the ocean setting.
